On the ballot you’ll find a question called the Homestead Exclusion Act, which would allow local and county authorities to exempt up to 100% of residential property values from school property taxes than the 50% now permitted. Lower taxes sound good to those of us lucky enough to own homes, but many educational advocates urge a NO vote. This measure would remove major funding for public schools without a source to replace it (likely sales taxes, shifting the burden from higher income to lower income people), as stated in the Phila Inquirer/Daily News editorial (second link).
